Oakdale Park

The original Texas family camping resort

Opened in 1925 as a campground, motor court and swimming pool, Oakdale Park is home to many events, from family reunions, RV rallies and swimming parties, to a weekly free summer concert series, to monthly bluegrass jams and free stage shows, to semi-annual bluegrass festivals, to an annual dulcimer festival, woodcarving rally, and BBQ and chili cook-off. From March through October, there’s almost always something happening; then, from Memorial Day through Labor Day our historic, 330,000 gallon swimming pool is open for business.

We have 120 RV spaces with full hook-ups and WIFI, about 2 dozen cabins, a couple of bunkhouses, a couple of bath houses, meeting rooms with kitchenettes, a convention center, an outdoor kitchen and pavilion, a new playground, a laundromat, an outdoor stage, picnic shelters and a park store.

We are located just across the street from the Paluxy River with its Big Rocks recreational area, a putt-putt golf course, a lighted river walk leading to a county park, and a dam with a small lake behind it.

Oakdale Park is close to several area attractions: Dinosaur Valley State Park, Fossil Rim, the Promise (a musical drama about the life of Jesus performed at the Texas Amphitheatre during September and October), Dinosaur World, the Creation Evidence Museum, Barnard’s Mill and Art Museum, and various Brazos River tubing and rafting opportunities. Several of Oakdale’s buildings as well as many others in Glen Rose were built with petrified wood. The abandoned, photogenic Ed Young Service Station (AKA Outlaw Service Station), located just a couple of miles from Oakdale, provides an especially stunning example of this type of architecture. Whether you want to participate in one of our many events, visit local attractions, enjoy the Paluxy River, start a new tradition and make Oakdale Park its home, or simply relax, we hope you will come and see what we have to offer.
